John Delorean Movie – Driven
Director Nick Hamm and writer Colin Bateman are to get together and make a movie about John DeLoreans life. it has emerged.
The John Delorean Movie dubbed Driven will star Jason Sudeikis, Lee Pace and Timothy Olyphant and is set to feature at the Cannes Film Festival in June. Filming will begin later this year in Puerto Rico, Bateman has confirmed.
It will tell the story of how a British Labour government gave DeLorean Motor Company £55m to build a car factory in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland in return for providing employment for 2,500. A further cash injection of £30m to help the struggling car company, came soon after from the newly appointed Conservative government led by a stern Margaret Thatcher.
The John Delorean Movie will be focused on the DeLorean cocaine bust in 1982. John DeLorean was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with conspiring to sell cocaine worth $24m (£12.6m) to raise funds to invest in the struggling company.
He accused the government of entrapment and was acquitted of all charges, despite the existence of a videotape of the Cocaine deal spending only 10 days in prison/
“All filmmakers are suckers for a good story and this is a great one – and as yet, untold. It’s about ambition, success and failure in a decade where everything began to change. It’s also an intelligent and personal drama about fighting for personal success. An edge-of-your-seat, character-driven and comic wink to the world of power suits, discos and vice. Above all, it’s damn good fun.” Director Nick Hamm Said
John DeLorean left the top job at General Motors to build his “Ethical” gull-winged automobile. He died 12 years ago at the age of 80.
The Delorean factory in Dunmurry closed in 1983 and manufactured around 9,000 cars.
